Join us for a half-day event focused on promoting yourself and advancing your career. Choose from sessions on how to leverage your networks, how to find a fulfilling career, and work with HR professionals to polish your resume and practice your interviewing skills. This event is for every stage of employment with personalized advice and relevant tips from professionals.

Registration opens at 8:30am and the first speaker starts at 9am.

Free to members, $20 suggested donation for non-members

For those interested in personalized job seeking advice, you will have the opportunity to work with an HR professional in a one-on-one or small group setting. You may choose to participate in two sessions, one geared towards resume writing and the other on interviewing skills. Bring a copy of your most recent resume to get the fullest benefit from these sessions.

Paula Klempay,  Director of MBA Career Services at the University of Washington's Foster School of Business

Paula joined MBA Career Services in April 2007 with 20 years experience as an internal and external career, leadership development and change management consultant. Consulted across all sectors in the Puget Sound business community, including with most major employers. She has four years experience working consultatively in the UK, France and Spain. She opened and managed UW Extension Downtown and Professional Training Programs for the University of Washington and has two plus years managing education programs for overseas military for the
University of Maryland in Germany and Italy.

Matt Youngquist, Founder and President of Career Horizons
Matt Youngquist is a recognized expert in the field of career coaching, job hunting, and professional employment counseling.  After witnessing the intense structural transformation of the job market over the past decade, he founded Career Horizons in 2004 to assist clients in navigating successfully through these unfamiliar and largely uncharted waters.   In his current role, he consults with clients at all levels on how to strategically assess their careers, explore their occupational options, reach their professional growth potential, and master the complex dynamics that are reshaping today’s employment marketplace.

Theresa M. Kinney, Vice President of Business Development, Lee Hecht Harrison

Theresa has over twelve years experience focused on organizational development.  An effective consultant and seminar facilitator, she has designed and delivered numerous training programs on a wide variety of topics, including supervisory skills, time management, interviewing techniques and communication.  Her client company industries include financial, manufacturing, high technology, health care, sales/service, retail, insurance and academic. In her current role, Theresa works with corporations to provide scalable solutions that help clients manage, develop and grow their most important asset – their talent. Her consulting background combined with her corporate experience provides a unique perspective that clients appreciate as they work to maximize performance and results.




Jill Walser, I Got The Job! Career Services

While working as the corporate recruiter for a party goods company in Kirkland, Jill Walser was responsible for screening resumes, selecting the “keepers” and completing thousands of interviews for positions in all departments. She learned firsthand which candidates – from executive to entry-level – were selected to move forward and what they did to be successful. She tracked things like how they found out about the job, what their resumes looked like and how they interviewed. Now, as the owner of I got the job! Career Services, Jill provides interview coaching, job search strategy and resume services to help her clients be able to say, “I got the job!”

Marcie Glenn, Another Source

Marcie Glenn is CEO for Another Source, the Puget Sound's only Employment Referral Service (ERS).  Another Source began with an idea to bridge the gap between the unpredictability of job boards and traditional employment agency models and fee structures.  Marcie has led the company to recognition by the Better Business Bureau, who named the company 2005 Innovative Business Practices Winner and also earned Another Source a spot on the Puget Sound Business Journal's Fastest Growing Private Companies List for 2005 and 2006. Her company has been recognized as a “best company to work for” in 2006, 2007, 2008, and now 2009!


Ashley Calabro, Free & Clear

Ashely has more than 14 years of experience in human resources management and recruiting.  Previous to starting her official career in HR, Ashley worked as a resume writer for two years helping professionals put together strong, well-written resumes.


Sandy Garner, LWHRA

Sandy Garner, SPHR, is a senior professional in human resources. Her specialty is employee & labor relations, training and development, and compliance. She has successfully recruited for and led HR functions for global and multi-regional facilities with union and non-union employees. Sandy has worked in human resource management for over 10+ years. Her Director level responsibilities have often played an integral part in helping to build strategy, improve organizational performance, and develop organizational capability. Sandy has volunteered with several organizations promoting career development and business strategy. While working as an HR Director in an education technology sector, she developed and managed the Career Services Department (CSD) where resume writing and interview techniques were a focus. Through networking and building relationships with local and regional corporations, the CSD was able to secure employment opportunities for program graduates while maintaining paid internships and temporary staffing assignments for enrolled students.


Greta Gillisse

Greta has worked in the human resources field for over 10 years, with a heavy emphasis on recruiting. She has interviewed thousands of candidates, and read thousands of resumes. She currently works as a professional Career Consultant, coaching executives on how to network, write strong resumes and succeed in interviews.


Brooke Wallace, Another Source

Brooke has been working in Human Resources for over a decade and has participated in many events geared towards helping individuals successfully find employment. She has read, reviewed and evaluated countless resumes. In her career, she has recruited and helped organizations to hire over 3,000 people. Brooke is truly passionate about being part of connecting job seekers to employers desiring new talent.

Andrea Penner, Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation

Currently an HR Generalist supporting Global Health at the Gates Foundation, Andrea is a passion-driven HR professional for values-led, mission-focused organizations with strong cultural alignment. As with previous roles supporting people needs at the Seattle-based games company, Cranium, and leading staffing development efforts for teams at Starbucks, Andrea has focused on creating and implementing people programs, recruiting, employee relations, performance management, team effectiveness and learning and development.
